On either side of the bomb are two cavities, which are covered by wooden slates. Cavities contain paper cartridges holding chalk and an ampoule of chlorosulphonic acid or fuming hydrochloric acid.
Type II is very similar, the differences merely being to allow for the insertion of a tracer candle, in the tail and a charging head for its initiation. Two steel wires lead from the fuze into the central stiffening tube and thence to a pair of terminal sockets in the tail cone. The tracer is fired by the terminal sockets on release from the plane and burns for approximately 55 seconds.
